Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene retired from test cricket after an illustrious 17-year test career. He retired in a near perfect style when the hosts trounced Pakistan in the second and final test match of the series by 105 runs at Colombo yesterday. Sri Lanka won the series 2-0. President Mahinda Rajapaksha, who was in the stadium to witness the match was among the first to felicitate Jayawardene at the end of his test career. A half century at his home ground, another century stand with his friend and favorite batting partner Kumar Sangkara capped with his Test career.Jayawardene made his debut against India in 1997 as a 20-year old and scored a half century in his first innings.
