<span style="color: #222222;">The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary is being celebrated by the grateful nation. There are several incidences in the life of Mahatma Gandhi that have deeply influenced him and in turn the whole nation. One such landmark event is his visit to Madurai in September 1921. Gandhian historians say the visit led him to adopt the loincloth with a shawl, disowning his usual elaborate attire.</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;"><br />”A report</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;"><br />”Mahatma Gandhi visited the southern state of Tamil Nadu, which was then part of the Madras Presidency, twenty times, including five times to Madurai. The Director of the Gandhi Museum in the temple town Nanda Rao chronicles his Madurai ties:</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;">There is a good relationship with Madurai and Mahatma. He visited Madurai five times. During 1919, against the Roulette Act he visited Madurai. Next he visited in the year 1921. This is the important event, he adopted loin cloth in Madurai. Till the end he never wore any shirt. After that his visit was in the year 1927. He visited Madurai for the Swadeshi Movement. And next to that in the year 1934 he visited for Harijan Welfare.</span><br />” <span style="color: #222222;"><br />”The Gandhi Museum at Madurai has 14 articles that were used by Mahatma Gandhi personally. The dress worn by the Mahatma at the time of his assassination is one of the most significant exhibits there. It is only befitting that the city that led Gandhiji to change the attire to a dhoti has become its home. </span><br />
