Maharashtra polls: Congress CEC meets to discuss seat sharing issue

Congress Central Election Committee meeting on seat sharing for upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra is underway in New Delhi.

All the 14 members of the Committee including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mukul Vasnik, Girija Vyas, Janardan Dwivedi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are present.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chauhan is also attending the meeting.

AIR Correspondent reports that both the alliances- Congress-NCP and BJP-Shiv Sena are facing difficulty in run up to the polls in the State.

Hectic parleys are on between both Congress-NCP and BJP-Shiv Sena combine to end the stalemate .

Congress is not willing to give more than 126 seats to NCP which wants to contest from 144 seats in the 288-member assembly.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena is offering 119 seats to BJP which is pressing for 135 seats. Meanwhile,
