Polling to elect new representatives for 27 Zilla Parishads and 305 Panchayat Samitis was conducted peacefully in rural and semi rural Maharashtra on tuesday. There was a voter turn out of around 65% – 70% and elaborate security arrangements and stepped up vigil by the police and other security agencies ensured no untoward incident during polling in Maharashtra.As many as 59,914 polling booths and more than 1.38 lakh Electronic Voting Machines were in place for voting in the state. The people of Maharashtra have now sealed the fate of 7,116 candidates for 1,624 seats in the Zilla Parishads and 13,473 candidates for 3,218 seats of Panchayat Samitis by registering their votes in the Electronic Voting Machines in the state. Counting of votes for the local bodies polls will take place on February , 17 , 2012.
