BJP-Shiv Sena and Congress-NCP combines continued their efforts to resolve stalemate over seat sharing for Maharashtra Assembly elections.
BJP sources said, Maharashtra BJP leaders are flying to Mumbai today for a fresh round of talks with Shiv Sena leaders. Shiv Sena President Udhav Thackeray yesterday made a final offer of 119 seats to BJP and 18 seats to other smaller allies of grand alliance Mahayuti.
As per the latest offer, Shiv Sena will contest 151 seats. BJP however, said that there is nothing new in this offer. BJP Central Committee which met in New Delhi last night decided to continue efforts for respectable and mature understanding on seat sharing between the two allies.
BJP in-charge for Maharashtra Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters after the meeting that party wants to go to polls along with Shiv Sena and other alliance partners. The BJP is understood to have shortlisted 120 candidates out of a list of over 180 candidates that were discussed at the meeting. Election Committee Meeting was followed by the Party's Parliamentary Board meeting to discuss the strategy in the wake of Shiv Sena's offer of 119 seats.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has said that Congress will announce its 1st list of candidates today.
