All the 11 candidates who filed nominations for the Maharashtra Legislative Council poll for as many seats, are set to get elected unopposed to the Upper House. Today was the last day of filing nominations. The returning officer Dr. Anant Kalse today told reporters that the official announcement of the poll result will be made on 18th July which is the last date of withdrawal of nominations.Congress has nominated MPCC Chief Manikrao Thakre, former legislators Sanjay Dutt and Sharad Ranpise. Dutt had resigned from his council seat to enable Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan get elected to the Council. BJP fielded former minister Vijay Girkar and former corporator Ashish Shelar, while Shiv Sena put up Anil Parab and Vinayak Raut. Jaidev Gaikwad, Narendra Patil and Amarsinh Pandit are NCP’s candidates. Peasants’ and Workers’ Party leader Jayant Patil had also filed his nomination papers. The term of 11 members of the Council, elected by members of Legislative Assembly, expires on July 27.
