Incessant rain in Konkan region of Maharashtra have caused damage to life and property. While six persons died in Sindudurg, a landslide near Kashedi Ghat joining Ratnagiri and Raigad districts has brought the traffic on the Mumbai – Goa highway to a halt. Our Raigad correspondent reports, traffic has been diverted and heavy downpour is affecting operations to clear debris on the highway. Rivers in the district are also reported to be overflowing. 16 fishermen from Alibaug who had ventured into the rough sea are still reported missing. Search operations are being carried out by the Navy, Coast Guard and a naval helicopter. Coast Guard officials told AIR, that Coast Guard ships have been deployed in the shores since last midnight and have been unable to locate the missing fishermen. The Coast Guard has warned fishermen to not venture into the sea for atleast the next 2 – 3 days due to rough sea conditions. Meanwhile services on the Konkan Railway have been temporarily reopened following progress in the work of clearing debris from the tracks.
