Maharashtra HM asserts state govt to respect SC verdict on dance bars

Maharashtra's Minister of state for Home, Ranjit Patil has asserted that the government will respect the Supreme Court verdict on the issue but keep a check for untoward activity taking place under the garb of dance bars.
''
''He added that the apex court had indeed agreed to several provisions of the state law like time restrictions and no showering of currency notes on performers.
''
''Chairperson of Maharashtra State Commission for Women and National President of Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha too felt that dance bars should not have been allowed as they prove to have a disturbing effect on many families.
''
''She however felt happy that the apex court had upheld certain provisions of the state law which will ensure there is no criminality, obscenity and exploitation.
''
''The Shiv Sena, however said that the state has failed to make a foolproof law banning dance bars.
''
''Senior Sena leader Anil Parab said it was unfortunate that the apex court did not uphold the Bombay High Court's ruling, as the objective behind the 2016 law was noble.
''
''While state Education Minister Vinod Tawde said the BJP-led state government presented its case well before the Supreme Court, local BJP leader Prem Shukla said the state government will consult legal experts on the SC's order.
''
''Stating that there can be "regulations" but not "total prohibition", the Supreme Court on Thursday paved the way for the reopening of dance bars in Maharashtra by setting aside some provisions of a 2016 law imposing restrictions on their licensing and functioning.
