Maharashtra , Haryana Assemblies poll on Oct 15

Maharashtra and Haryana Assemblies will go to poll on 15th of the next month. Announcing the dates in New Delhi this evening, Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath said, the process of nomination will start on 20th of this month and will close on 27th.

Counting of votes will take place on 19th of October. Haryana has 90 Assembly constituencies whereas Maharashtra 288. The Chief Election Commissioner said, every electronic voting machine will have option of None of the Above (NOTA).

Mr Sampath said, there will be more than 16 thousand polling stations in Haryana while 90,403 in Maharashtra. Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect.

The Chief Election Commissioner said, Parliamentary constituencies of Beed in Maharashtra and Kandhamal in Odisha will go to the polls on 15th of next month.

He said, 5 Assembly constituencies in five states will go for bye-polls on the same date. The constituencies are Kanubari in Arunachal Pradesh, Hiyanglam in Manipur, Northern Angami-II in Nagaland, Kairana in Uttar Pradesh and Rajkot West in Gujarat.

Later replying to a query, Sampath said the Election Commission is watching flood situation closely in Jammu and Kashmir and a decision will be taken after things become clear.

On Delhi election, he said the Commission will be in readiness whenever there will be polls.
