Maharashtra govt to recommend Tendulkar’s name for Bharat Ratna award

After Team India’s historic win of the cricket world cup, Maharashtra government’s long time demand of giving Bharat Ratna to India’s iconic player Sachin Tendulkar has gained momentum. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday informed the state assembly that his government is going to recommend to the centre that Tendulkar should be given the highest civilian award, in view of his outstanding contribution to the game of sport and also for winning the world cup title. He said that Sachin is the pride of India and should be given the award. The chief minister said the Maharashtra government would be sending an official recommendation to the centre soon for the same.
