In line with the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, the Maharashtra Government on Friday approved world’s biggest and highest capacity solar projects. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan told reporters in Mumbai that the state cabinet has approved a proposal to develop a 150 megawatts solar power plant at Shivajinagar in Dhule district. He said , two plants, one of 125 megawatts another of 25 megawatts will be constructed with the financial help of Germany based KWF Company. The state government will soon sign an agreement on this with the German authorities. Under the aegis of Mahagenco, these plants will use crystalline technology and thin film technology to produce green energy. The power produced in this plant will be distributed across the state at a predetermined rate. The state government will sign agreements with power distributors like Mahavitran and Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport – BEST. This plant will be made operational by 31st March 2012. The state government today also decided to provide financial aid to two solar power plants, first of one megawatt and second of 4 megawatt, coming up in Chandrapur district. The total cost of these two plants at Chandrapur and the plants at Dhule will be Rupees 1987 crores.
