The Maharashtra government has announced that a two layered socio-economic and caste census will be conducted in the state between October and December. This decision was taken at the state cabinet meeting held in Mumbai today. In view of the deficient rainfall in western Maharashtra, Nashik, Marathwada and Vidharbha region, Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan has asked the respective Guardian Ministers to conduct a review meeting and file a detailed report in the next two days.
