Maharashtra government to consider unseasonal rain a natural calamity

In Maharashtra, the State government, while providing relief to farmers, said unseasonal rains will be considered a natural calamity in the State. A statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said that terming unseasonal rain a natural calamity will help the administration to provide relief to agriculturists whose crops have been damaged due to untimely rain. It said that continuous rains of 10 mm for a minimum of five days and losses of more than 33 per cent will be eligible for aid. Due to this decision, farmers will not be deprived of assistance due to the lack of criteria.<br />''  <br />'' A new comprehensive revised sand policy has been prepared for the citizens of the State to get sand at a cheap rate and to curb unauthorized sand mining, and this policy was approved in the Cabinet meeting held today.<br />''  <br />'' According to this policy, the sale rate of sand has been fixed at 600 rupees per brass i.e. 133 rupees per metric ton to all citizens on an experimental basis for one year. It was also decided that a Technical Committee under the chairmanship of the Tehsildar will conduct the monitoring of the sand group in the river bed. A taluka-level Sand Control Committee will be established for each Taluka of the district under the chairmanship of the Sub-Divisional Officer. This Committee after determining the sand group, will recommend to the District Level Committee to announce the online e-tendering method for that group.<br />''  <br />'' The Cabinet also gave a revised approval for phase 2 of Nagpur Metro in which a 43.8 km rail route will be set up. The meeting also decided to set up a project for electricity generation from the garbage in the Deonar dumping ground in Mumbai.
