<span style="color: #222222;">Faced with major disruption of economic activity in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, the Maharashtra government announced a slew of measures, including no launch of new schemes and near freeze on recruitments, to shore up revenue and meet unavoidable expenditures like staff salaries and to carry out important functions.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Under lockdown since late March, state's industrial and business activities are crippled. The state's finance department issued a government resolution (GR) issued said the measures are being taken as the decision to disburse salaries of March to state government employees in two instalments has not been enough.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">AIR Correspondent reports that the GR has asked various departments to not propose any new scheme in the ongoing fiscal. The state government will not be spending on any new scheme it had undertaken from the start of fiscal 2020-21.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The government has designated Public Health, Medical Education, Food and Civil Supplies and Relief & Rehabilitation as priority departments. All other departments are being barred from issuing new purchase orders or tenders. Except for the required pre-monsoon work, no department is allowed to undertake any construction activity.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">All transfers of officials have been suspended to save on expenditure incurred on them.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Meanwhile, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday said the legal heir of its employees will be given jobs in case they die while performing coronavirus-related duties. Jobs will be given on compassionate grounds and depending upon educational qualifications of the next of the kin of civic employees.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Twelve personnel, including six sub-inspectors of Mumbai's JJ Marg police station have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in last 24 hours. Maharashtra on Monday reported 771 new coronavirus cases, taking the total case count to 14,541.</span><br />
