Maharashtra CM orders probe into Thane building collapse

Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan has ordered a probe in the Thane building collapse. He announced in Assembly that two lakh rupees compensation will be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. He said Additional Chief Secretary rank officer will conduct a thorough probe and the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Thane area and senior Police Inspector has been suspended in connection with the collapse.

Police has already registered a case against the builders and efforts are on to nab the culprits. The death toll in the building collapse in Shil Phata area of the Thane district has gone upto 45. Some people are still believed to be trapped under the debris. The deceased include construction workers, women and children. While 59 people were injured in the incident, 17 of them have been discharged from hospital after administering medical treatment to them. The seven-storey illegal structure collapsed around 6 p.m. on Thursday.
