The Maharashtra government saw its first cabinet expansion today with 29 more ministers being sworn in. 19 of the ministers were from Congress. Prominent among them were Narayan Rane, Patangrao Kadam, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Harshavardhan Patil, Naseem Khan, and Varsha Gayakvad. 10 ministers from NCP were also administered oath today. Prominent among them were Anil Deshmukh’ Baban Rao Pachpute and Hasan Mushreef. With this the strength of the ministry has gone up to 40. Three more ministers are left to swear in.Congress Party also declared its ministers’ portfolios in the newly formed council of ministers. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has kept Urban Development as well as justice and law department with him. Earlier revenue Minister Narayan Rane has been given Industry and port development Portfolio. On the other hand Balasaheb Thorat has been allotted Revenue Ministry. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has been allotted Agricultural ministry. Naseem Khan is now the textile and Minority Affairs Minister. Harshvardhan Patil has retained Parliamentary affairs Ministry besides which he will handle cooperation department. Rajendra Darda will be the new School education Minister. Varsha Gayakvad is now the Women and Children Welfare Minister. Sanjay Devtale has been allotted Environmental and cultural ministry. Adv. Padmakar Valvi will now be youth affairs and Sports minister.The Nationalist Congress Party also declared its ministers’ portfolios. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has been given finance and energy Ministry. Sunil Tatkare who was, finance minister in the earlier government, has been allotted water resources ministry. Remaining all portfolios of NCP ministers are unchanged as R. R. Patil has retained Home Department while Former Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal has retained Public Works and Tourism Department and Jayant Patil has managed to keep Rural development department with him.
