Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr Ashok Chavan said in Mumbai on Tuesday that he will stand by the decision taken by the Congress Party and its coalition partner NCP on the issue of a separate Vidarbha state. Mr Chavan held a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan and addressed the media on a number of other issues like discipline in Maharashtra's police force, ragging and ban on plastic.<br/><br/>Answering a query about police personnel who were found at a party dancing along with gangsters, Mr Chavan said that suitable action would be taken against the guilty. He also said that an inquiry would be conducted to find out whether the party was organized by NCP leader Deepak Mankar.<br/><br/>Speaking about the recent ragging incident at KEM College, Mr Chavan said that the government would ensure that the errant students are punished, but added that their academic careers would not be harmed. Commenting on the impact of the ragging scene in the movie "3 Idiots", Mr Chavan said that films have always depicted social evils and created awareness about them in the society but if any government department finds the scene disturbing, they can ask the censor board to remove it.<br/><br/>Also talking about the sudden surge in student suicides in Mumbai, Mr Chavan said that it was a serious concern and requested parents to pay more attention towards the expectations of their children. Speaking about the water crisis in Mumbai, Mr Chavan admitted that Mumbai indeed is facing an acute water shortage but said that the government would soon take adequate measure to ensure smooth supply. On the issue of ban on plastic bags, the Chief Minister said that if plastic affects the environment, then there is nothing wrong in banning it. However, he said that some substitute for plastic should be launched soon. <br/>
