Maharashtra CM calls meeting of legislature party to discuss political situation

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has called the meeting of state’s Congress legislature party on Thursday to discuss the emerging political situation in the state. Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had surprised everyone on Tuesday by resigning from ministerial post.

Mr. Chavan has said that he will decide upon Pawar’s resignation only after consulting party leaders from both the Congress and NCP. Mr. Pawar had resigned following allegations of irregularities worth crores of rupees during his tenure as irrigation minister between 1999 and 2009.

Meanwhile, earlier today, in a show of strength, NCP workers turned up in large numbers outside Vidhan Bhawan demanding the withdrawal of the Ajit Pawar’s resignation. The NCP Legisalture party too passed a resolution requesting Mr. Pawar to withdraw his resignation.
