Maharashtra Cabinet to be expanded today

The much awaited Expansion of Prithviraj Chavan-led Congress-NCP ministry in Maharashtra is today scheduled to take place at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. According to Raj Bhavan sources, the ceremony will take place at 11 am. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, held meetings with party President Sonia Gandhi to finalise the list of Congress ministers. After a crucial meeting in Mumbai with NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, the allies agreed on their 1999 seat sharing formula for the 43-member Council of Ministers. The Congress will have 23 ministers. According to sources 19 out of them are to swear in today. Among them 13 are Cabinet and 6 are State Ministers. The Governor of Maharashtra K. Shankar Narayannan will administer them oath. It is expected that Narayan Rane, Patang Rao Kadam, Harshavardhan Patil, Balasaheb Thorat, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil will be included in the Council of Ministers. Prithviraj Chavan has already declared that some new faces will be given opportunity this time. The portfolios of ministers will be declared today only.The remaining 20 ministers would be from the NCP where 10 of whom have already administered oath. Not much of the changes are expected in NCP’s council of ministers.
