Maharashtra cabinet recommends suspension of State CIC

The Maharashtra cabinet has recommended suspension of State Chief Information Commissioner Ramanand Tiwari to the Governor. The Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan informed this at a press conference in Mumbai. Tiwari has been accused of giving illegal permission to the Adarsh society, where a number of bureaucrats and ministers own flats, when he was chief secretary of urban development department. Tiwari’s son Omkar Tiwari also has a flat in Adarsh society.Clarifying the decision Mr.Chavan said that Tiwari is retired IAS officer and his appointment as Chief Information Commissioner was a political decision. Therefore according to law, State government recommended his suspension to Governor, the state government has already constituted a two-member judicial panel to probe the irregularities in the Adarsh scam.
