The Maharashtra cabinet today recommended the suspension of Ramanand Tiwari as the chief information commissioner of the state. The chief minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan announced this in a press conference at State Headquarters in Mumbai. The cabinet has sent the letter to the governor, recommending that he should be not be allowed to work till the enquiry against him is completed. Tiwari has been accused of giving illegal permission to the Adarsh society, where a number of bureaucrats and ministers own flats, while being the chief secretary of urban development department.Earlier Tiwari had challenged his suspension. But now the government has clarified that his appointment as a Chief Information commissioner was a political decision and not a constitutional one.Mr. Chavan declared that as of now he cannot come to the state head quarters.
