Maharashtra Cabinet hold 1st meeting after new govt. formed

The newly formed Maharashtra cabinet held a meeting in Mumbai today to take stock of the various issues affecting the state. The impact of cyclone Phyan that had hit the state's coastline last week was the focal issue. Maharashtra Chief Minister, Mr. Ashok Chavan who headed the meeting was informed that atleast 17 fishermen from Maharashtra had died in the cyclone and about 80, including 45 from other states, are still missing. While monetary help will be provided to the families of the fishermen who have died due to cyclone, the government has announced an Rs 25 crore initial package for those fishermen whose trawlers and nets got damaged. Mr Chavan has also asked the officials to prepare a complete data of the damages of the crops due to Phyan. The cabinet also passed a resolution, congratulating Sachin Tendulkar for completing 20 years in international cricket and scoring 17,000 runs in ODIs. The resolution said that Tendulkar's success in cricket is a symbol of his loyalty to the game, hard work and his intense feelings for the country. It added that Sachin had provided pleasure to crores of Indians and cricket lovers across the world through his brilliant play.<br/><br/>
