The Budget session of Maharashtra legislative assembly concluded on Friday. The monsoon session would commemorate on 9th of July. Maharashtra government announced that workers of the defunct textile mills will be allotted flats in Mumbai at a reduced rate. Making a statement in the Legislative Council Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said flats having a rate of Rs 8.34 lakh have been reduced by Rs 84 thousand, bringing it to Rs 7.50 lakh. He also said that twenty two out of the 106 martyrs who laid down their lives in the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement (freedom struggle of Maharashtra) would be allotted houses free of cost. Chief Minister Prithvraj Chavan announced that a through inquiry will be conducted against 1,500 schools across the state for showing more than 50% bogus students and siphoning off funds. Meanwhile, Maharashtra's long pending youth and sports policy got acceptance from the cabinet and will soon be announced. A grand sports event will be organised to prepare players of international standard. In another decision, suspension of 14 MLAs was revoked on Friday. Thirteen Shiv Sena MLAs and one BJP legislator were suspended for one year after the 90 minute-long furore over the theft of lord Ganesha's golden idol from a temple in Diveagar, in Raigad district. Meanwhile, Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Radhakrishan Vikhe-Patil on Friday assured Members of legislative council that stern action will be taken against the companies, which were involved in supplying 'Bogus seeds' to the farmers. He also informed that complaint from 124 talukas' have been received and licenses of 19 companies have already been cancelled and show cause notices have been issued to 68 companies. Mr Vikhe-Patil said compensation of Rs 2.38 crore have been distributed to 5730 eligible farmers across the state.A unified smart card for Mumbai city travel Mumbai commuters will soon use a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for cashless travel across the city. The card can be used to buy tickets for metro, mono and suburban rail and buses, besides paying auto and taxi fares, parking charges and toll. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has conducted a meeting for the initiative, which has been launched by the Union Ministry of Urban Development. The Ministry has identified UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services, a government-owned company as the national technology aggregator for the programme. UTI Infra will offer MMRDA and other transit and para-transit corporations various services to implement unified ticketing solutions to avoid the repeated inconvenience of small cash transactions. The unified card will be called ‘More Mumbai.
