The newly elected MLAs of BJP in Maharashtra will meet in Mumbai today to elect their legislature party leader.
The meeting will be attended by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and party General Secretary JP Nadda who are also BJP’s central observers for the election of the legislature party leader.
Sources said, BJP’s State Unit Chief Devendra Phadanvis is likely to be elected as the leader of the legislature party to lead the new government in the state.
Mumbai Pradesh BJP President Ashish Shelar told media persons yesterday that the first-ever government, led by the Bharatiy Janata Party in Maharashtra, will be sworn-in on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states are among those who are expected to attend the ceremony, which will be held at the Wankhede Cricket stadium in South Mumbai.
The BJP, which emerged as the single largest party by winning 122 seats in the 288-member Assembly, is confident about sailing through the majority test on the floor of the house.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut has said that talks are on with BJP over government formation. He expressed confidence that good news will come soon in this regard.
Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar once again extended support to the BJP. In an interview to an English daily, Pawar said that his party will remain abstain from the assembly in case BJP's minority government comes in power and asked to prove majority. Earlier, Pawar had extended unconditional outside support to BJP to form new government in Maharashtra.
