Maha Shivratri being celebrated today in several parts of country

Maha Shivratri is being celebrated all over the country today. Devotees worship Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil, on the occasion. <br/><br/>This year, Maha Shivratri celebrations will extend till Wednesday.<br/><br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh Mahashivratri is being celebrated with religious fervor and traditional gaiety. It will also be celebration on Wednesday in some districts. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that a sea of devotees Chanting Har Har Mahadev throng various temples of lord Shiva very early morning to mark the occasion across the state. <br/><br/>In connection with Maha Shivrathri, the unique Shiv temple marathon run will conclude in the Kanyakumari district of Tamilnadu on Tuesday. <br/><br/>As part of the marathon devotees will offer obeisience at 12 temples in the district, within a total distance of 125 kms. <br/><br/>The marathon, which covers some of the most picturesque areas of rural Tamilnadu, is also a call for us to slow down and save the environment.<br/><br/><br/>The pious city of Varanasi is witnessing huge rush of devotees at famous Kashi Vishwanath temple one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of the country. Worshippers started reaching the temple city two days before. <br/><br/>Traffic diversion has been imposed in the town to regulate the movements of vehicles.<br/><br/>Religious processions known as Shiv Baraats are also being taken out in various parts of the city amid tight security. <br/><br/>Elaborate security arrangements are made at the town. <br/><br/>District administration has deployed cops at various Ganga ghats and in and around Vishwanath temple. CCTV cameras are also installed at various places.<br/><br/>Lakhs of devotees are gathered to perform the bathing ritual at Sangam, the confluence of holy Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati in Allahabad on this occasion. Mahashivratri is the last bath festival of month long Magh Mela.<br/>'<br/>Massive security arrangements are in place across the state and additional 14 companies of Rapid Action Force and 40 companies of PAC are deployed. <br/><br/>Extra forces have been provided to the sensitive districts including Varanasi, Lucknow, Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Mathura, Aligarh and Chitrakoot for security purposes.<br/><br/>In Gujarat, all the temples of Lord Shiva have been beautifully decorated on the ocassion of Mahashivratri. <br/><br/>Devotees are seen in long queue for Darshan and Prasad at Shiv temples. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that special puja and darshan have been organized at Somnath Temple – one of the twelve Jyotirlingams of the country. <br/><br/>Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Somnath Trust Chairman Keshubhai Patel have participated in the special Maha-Shivratri Puja at the Temple on Tuesday along with large number of devotees. <br/>AIR correspondent reports, the first of the 12 Jyotirlingams in the country- Lord Somnath Temple has been beautifully decorated with flowers and lightings. <br/><br/>Apart from tourists, large numbers of devotees have also reached Somnath Temple for Darshan and special puja on the occasion of Maha- Shivratri since early morning. <br/><br/>According to faith, the first Jyotirlingam- Lord Somnath was also emerged on Maha- Shivratri. <br/><br/>Thousands of devotees are also reaching Junagadh to participate in Bhavnath fair- on the occasion of Maha-Shivratri. <br/><br/>Hundreds of Naga-bavas and saints across the country have also gathered at mount Girnar to participate in Bhavnath fair. <br/><br/>In Jharkhand, Mahashivratri is being celebrated with religious fervour and gaity. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports Large number of devotees from Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal have arrived at the state's temple town of Deoghar to offer prayers at Baijnath Temple of Lord Shiva. <br/><br/>The main prayer and rituals will take place during night and devotees will remain awake all through the night, singing devotional songs and participating in procession depicting important events of Lord Shiva's life. <br/><br/>The festival committee of Deoghar is celebrating it's silver jubilee this year.<br/>AIR correspondetn reports, large number of devotees from Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal have arrived at Deoghar to offer their prayer at Baijnath Temple of Lord Shiva on the occasion of Mahashivratri. <br/><br/>The main prayer and rituals will take place during night and devotees will remain awake all through the night, amidst singing of bhajan, kirtan and procession of various jhanki , depicting important events of Lord Shiva life.<br/><br/>The festival committee of Deoghar is celebrating it's silver jubilee this year. <br/><br/>Special security and traffic arrangements by the government are in place.
