Maharashtra received satisfactory level of monsoon rain this time. The storage of water in the reservoirs of the state has increased considerably. There are about 2100 dams in the state including small, medium and major ones. AIR correspondent says, the area under cotton in the state has been recorded as 41 lakh 25 thousand hectares. Cotton production during this season was estimated to be equally good, because of the favorable conditions.Marathwada and Vidharbha are the major cotton producing regions of the state; this year too the farmers are expecting remunerative prices for this produce. Like cotton, the area under sugarcane cultivation in Maharashtra is 10 lakh 5 thousands hectares and the sugarcane production from this is estimated to be around 85 million tones. Farmers are expecting better prices for their sugarcane crop.
