Century's first Maha Kumbh began this morning at Hardwar on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Lakhs of people from different parts of the country are pouring in at Har-ki-Pouri for a holy dip despite severe cold and fog. AIR correspondent reports that today's holy dip is described as first bathing of Maha Kumbh.<br/><br/>Lakhs of people have gathered at Ganga Sagar to take a holy dip on the occasion of Makar Sankrati. AIR Kolkata correspondent reports that pilgrims have come from all over the country and also from abroad. The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Chaowdhury Mohan Jatua who is also a local MP of Sagar Island is supervising the Ganga Sagar mela. Doordarshan for the first time has arranged live telecast of the mela.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, at least seven pilgrims have been killed and several others injured in a stampede at Ganga Sagar in South 24 Pargana District today. Injured pilgrims have been admitted to a local hospital. The incident occurred when pilgrims were going to take holy dip at Ganga Sagar, the confluence of Bhagirathi – Bay of Bengal, on the occasion of Makar Sankrati. West Bengal government has ordered a probe over the incident. The state Chief Secretary Mr. Ashok Mohan Chakrawarti told this in Kolkata this afternoon. He said, government is taking measures to send the body of the victim to native places.<br/><br/>Makar Snkranti is being celebrated with joy and religious devotion in Rajasthan. In the morning, thousands of people were present at Holy Pushkar Sarovar and different other religious places in the state. AIR Jaipur correspondent reports that sky of Jaipur is full of kites and people are enjoying this festival . <br/><br/>
