Maha, Haryana polls: Last day of filing nominations today

Today is the last day of filing up the nominations for the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

In Maharashtra, all the major political parties are gearing up to contest polls, after seat sharing flip-flop with old allies. The parties have almost declared all their candidates contesting elections. Today is the last day filing up nominations. By now all major political parties have declared their candidates contesting elections. Many big leaders are rushing to file their nominations amidst elaborate security.

Political campaigns have also kick-stared with leaders visiting their constituencies and taking stock of their party's poll preparedness in their regions.

AIR Mumbai corespondent reports, with just few hours left to file nominations for the October 15 Maharashtra assembly elections, heavy rush is being seen at various returning offices across the state. Almost all major political parties have either announced their candidates or directly asked them to file nominations before the deadline. Till yesterday, altogether 3044 nominations were filed In the state for the total 288 assembly seats.

Meanwhile, after split in two major alliances political activities are still on to establish new equations in the state. Besides, a large number of individuals are seen changing their loyalties to get tickets from other political parties.

After the break up of alliance with NCP,state Congress leaders had yesterday announced to go in with Samajwadi Party. However, according to sources, the Congress High Command today asked state congress leaders to snap their ties with Samajwadi Party. On other side, The Republican Party chief Ramdas Athawale has not yet declared his party's stand on any alliance. It is reported that Athawale is holding talks with both Shiva Sena and the BJP.

BJP national President Amit Shah is in Mumbai to review his party’s poll preparedness. Nationalist Congress Party and Congress have already started their political campaign. Shiv Sena will begin its political campaign in Mumbai today. Party Chief Udhdhav Thackarey is expected to break his silence on the break up with its 25 year old ally, BJP.

In Haryana, the filing of nomination by different political party candidates is in full swing. Senior politicians of the state including chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, yesterday filed his nomination from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency of Rohtak district. Leader of BJP legislative group in the state assembly, Anil Vij, filed his papers from Ambala Cantonment. Our correspondent reports that around three dozen candidates of Indian National Lok Dal, including its state unit chief Ashok Arora, filed their nominations yesterday.
