Today is the last day for the filing of nominations in Maharashtra and Haryana Assembly elections to be held on 15th October. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on Monday and last date of withdrawal of candidature on Wednesday. The counting of votes will be held on 19th of next month.
Major political parties are releasing their list of candidates. BJP has released today its second list of 51 candidates for Maharashtra Assembly elections. The party has earlier released its first list comprising 172 candidates.
The party has decided to field 36 sitting MLAs and one sitting Member of Legislative Council in the ensuing polls.
Congress has also released its second list of 143 candidates for Maharashtra Assembly polls late last night
Nationalist Congress Party also released a list of 131 candidates.
However the party did not announce any nominee against Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in Karad South.
Meanwhile Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, MNS released its second list of 71 candidates including its sitting MLA Bala Nandgaokar from Mumbai. On Thursday MNS had released first list of 153 candidates including seven sitting MLA's.
The total number of nominations filed in Maharashtra till Friday was 3,044.
In Haryana, almost all political Parties have announced the names of their candidates and so far 808 have filled their nominations. The maximum nominations were filed yesterday and only picked up pace on the first day of the Navratri festival.
AIR correspondent reports that all political party candidates are gearing up for the campaigning now after filing of the nominations. Political bigwigs like Haryana Chief Minister and party presidents of Bhartiya Janta Party and Indian National Lok Dal and many MLA s filed their nominations on Friday.
Indian National Congress has been in power from last one decade and is banking on its developmental works carried out in the State during their tenure whereas Bhartiya Janta Party is confident after winning seven out of eight seats contested in the recently held Lok Sabha elections and has decided to contest on all 90 assembly seats ending its alliance with Haryana Janhit Congress.
