Maha govt. proposes stringent punishment for crimes against women

Maharashtra Government has proposed stringent punishments under the Indian Penal Code in cases related to crimes against women and the proposal to this effect is expected to be tabled in the cabinet soon.The state government had set up an expert committee, headed by Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari, to suggest recommendations for amending existing laws related to crime against women.The recommendations have been submitted to the government and most of them have been accepted.Principal Secretary (Home) Medha Gadgil has said that the proposal will be submitted to the cabinet for clearance and later to the State Legislature for approval before being forwarded to the Centre.
