Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today visited the victims of yesterday’s color poisoning, during Holi celebrations, admitted to hospital in Mumbai. Chavan said that a six member committee has been formed to probe the matter and also to suggest ways to curb similar incidents in the future. He said that sample of color has been sent to the laboratory to find out the toxic chemicals present in it. Meanwhile, Rajawadi hospital officials confirmed that a 13-year-old boy died due to colour poisoning. They said that the boy identified as Vickey Valmiki succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Over 190 people, mostly children in the age group of 9-10 years, are being treated at the Sion hospital while 16 others have been admitted to the Byculla railway hospital. Most of the revelers, celebrating Holi yesterday, showed symptoms of giddiness, vomiting and other complications due to presence of toxic chemicals in the color. The affected were mostly children from Shastrinagar, Shahu Nagar and Lokmanya Tilak Nagar in the Dharavi area. Police have registered a case of negligence against unknown persons and are in the process of identifying shops from where the spurious colours were purchased.
