The Madras High Court has set aside a breach of privilege notice against 19 DMK MLAs of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. 21 MLAs of the principal opposition including its President MK Stalin were issued show cause notices by the House Privileges Committee over the Gutkha issue.<br />''<br />''The complaint is that in July 2017, Mr Stalin and 20 other MLAs of his party brought the banned tobacco product Gutkha to the House and waved them saying it is freely available. Speaker P Dhanapal referred the incident to the House panel. The panel issued notice to the legislators in August the same year. However, it was stayed by the High Court the next month. During the hearing, two of the legislators died and another, Mr KK Selvam was expelled from the party.<br />''<br />''The High Court First Bench led by Chief Justice AP Sahi in its verdict today set aside the show cause notice. However, it said the privilege committee is at liberty to reconsider the issue if it still feels the action of the MLAs amounts to breach of privilege.<br />
