Madras HC rejects CSK's plea challenging suspension from IPL

The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition by the management of the Chennai Super Kings challenging its suspension from the Indian Premier League IPL. Hearing the petition filed by the new owners of the franchisee, the first bench comprising Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam said the plea is not maintainable as the court does not have the jurisdiction. Refusing to go into the merit of the case, the court said the applicant can approach the Supreme Court. The franchisees Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were in July last year slapped a two-year suspension by the Justice Lodha Panel appointed by the apex court. The decision was made following the conclusion of the Justice Mudgal Committee that those involved in the management of both the teams Gururaj Meiyappan and Raj Kundra were indulging in heavy betting during the IPL season-six. The high court also rejected a public interest litigation moved by the senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy seeking removal of the suspension order, on the same ground of maintainability.
