Madras HC asks TN govt to take stand on Mohan committee report within six weeks

The Madras High court today extended relief to the Chennai T. Nagar Merchants association to continue with their business activities for a further 8 weeks. In an interim order, on a batch of writ petitions relating to the unauthorised buildings in T. Nagar, a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice M.Y. Iqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam directed the Tamil Nadu government to take a stand on the Mohan committee report within six weeks.Our correspondent reports that a number of shopping complexes in the commercial hub of Chennai was sealed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development authority, on charges of violation of building rules. The Merchants were allowed to continue their business for a period of eight weeks by the Supreme Court and suggested to approach the High court for redressal of their grievance.
