In Madhya Pradesh, a massive plantation campaign was undertaken today to save the environment and conservation of the Narmada river. According to official sources over six crore saplings were planted in twenty four districts of Narmada basin in just 12 hours. <br/><br/>Arrangements were made to record the whole event for the Guinness World Record. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the plantation drive at Amarkantak of Anooppur district this morning. <br/><br/>Later he also took part in plantation drives in Jabalpur and Omkareshwar. On this occasion, he said that now all the government programmes will begin with plantation in the state. He also called upon people to plant saplings on the occasions like wedding, birthday and anniversaries. He said that the Paudrakshaks will be deployed to look after these plants. <br/><br/>Mr. Chouhan said the world talks of global warming and climate change, But Madhya Pradesh has taken a concrete step to deal with it. He said we cannot imagine a life in Madhya Pradesh without the existence of Maa Narmada. So, we decided to plant trees on her banks.
