The Indian Panorama at the 42nd International Film Festival was today formally inaugurated by Film Actress Madhuri Dixit Nene at Panaji in Goa.
In the feature film section, “Urumi’, a Malayalam film was screened soon after the inauguration. Directed by Santosh Sivan, the story is set in the backdrop of the fierce warrior clans of Northern Kerala in the sixteenth century and focuses on the cult of a hero Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar.
In the Non-Feature Film category, Hindi movie, Adwaita Sangeet was the opening film.
The first-ever documentary made on renowned vocalists Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Mishra of the Banaras 'gharana' has been directed by Makarand Brahme.
Indian Panorama has 7 Malayalam films among 24 feature films and 21 non feature films.
The 10-member jury for Feature films, headed by renowned filmmaker Sai Paranjpye, selected 23 films out of a total of 118 eligible entries.
Malayalam film Adaminte Makan Abu, which won Best Feature Film award at the recently held 58th National Film Awards is the 24th film of Indian Panorama, by virtue of direct entry.
The Non Feature films five-member Jury chaired by well known writer director Ashok Rane, picked 21 films out of 135 eligible entries.
The winner of Best Non Feature film in the recent 58th National Film Awards for 2010 ‘Germ’ has not been included in the Non Feature film category, as it was already included in the Indian Panorama 2010 last year.
Earlier, Chairperson and Jury Members of both Non-Feature Film and Feature Film category were honoured by Madhuri Dixit Nene and Secretary of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Uday Kumar Verma along with other dignitaries.
The Chairperson of Feature Film category, Sai Pranjpe could not come due to her prior engagements. Rajan and Sajan Mishra were also honoured on this occasion.
