Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that science has the responsibility to add values to ancient musical traditions like Mridangam and to preserve and protect the nation's cultural heritage. He released the monograph, the Musical Excellence of Mridangam, at a function in Chennai this evening. <br />''<br />''Speaking on this occasion, Mr Naidu said, Mridangam is an instrument made with ordinary and locally available materials, but exhibits enormous musical beauty. He stressed the importance of having a strong collaboration between music and science. He observed that such a collaboration would open up new opportunities for future researches on different musical traditions like Mridangam. He expressed satisfaction that modern science is being applied for standardizing the fabrication of musical instruments.<br />'' <br />''The Vice President noted that, like every facet of India, there is a fascinating diversity, extraordinary breadth and incredible depth in Indian music. He said, it has a treasure-house of songs that has been providing continuous nourishment to the mind, heart and soul.
