Lyallpur Khalsa College to be upgraded to university

Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal says Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar will be upgraded to a university if it fulfils all the required norms. This is being done as the college has its century old academic legacy in spreading education in northern India.<br/><br/> Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the completion of 100 years of this prestigious college at Jalandhar, on Saturday, the Chief Minister outlined the initiatives taken by the state government in the field of higher education. He said that three new universities at Bathinda, Amritsar and Fatehgarh Sahib are being set up to impart higher education of global standards in all disciplines. This will help the youth of the state to compete well in seeking jobs. Apart from this, 13 new degree colleges are being established across the state. 21 model schools are also being set up to impart quality education free of cost to the poor and bright students especially from the rural areas.<br/><br/> He also announced to give 10 lakh rupees to the college management committee for more development of the college.<br/><br/> The Layallpur Khalsa College in it’s a centenary old history has produced many such students who had made their mark in various fields. Its foundation stone was laid by Sant Atar Singh in 1908 an Layallpur, now in Pakistan.
