Lucknow to have its own metro rail

Lucknow, the capital city of UP will soon have its own metro rail. This will be the second metropolis of the state after Ghaziabad to have Rapid Transit System. The UP Government has asked Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to submit a detailed Project Report to construct underground and over ground metro rail system in the state capital.<br/> <br/>The State Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta finalised the plan in a meeting in Lucknow last evening. The Delhi Metro officials made a presentation of the project in the meeting. Initially a distance of 41 Kms of the city area will be covered under the project. It will be a hybrid of underground and over ground rail track.<br/> <br/>The laying of tracks would cost 400 Crore rupees a Kilometre for underground construction and 200 crore rupees per kilometre for overground work. Construction of two metro corridors will be taken up in the first phase. The east-west corridor comprising Charbagh-Thakurganj-Hardoi road will be 13 Kms long while 28 Kilometres long north-south corridor will start from Amausi Airport and terminate at Indira Nagar Munshi Pulia. The metro will be extended to Barabanki district under master plan 2021 in next phase.<br/> <br/>Official sources said, a Special Purpose Vehicle will be established for raising fund from the market to execute the project.
