LTTE chief’s father mortal handed over TNA

The mortal remains of father of LTTE chief late Velupillai Prabhakaran were handed over to the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian and one of the independent Presidential contenders K. Sivajilingam from Army protection on Friday, according to the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara.<br/><br/>The body is being taken to his home town in Jaffna peninsula for performing the last rites.<br/><br/>Speaking to AIR/DD ,Brigadier Udaya Nanyakkara said that the ailing mother of late Prabhakaran, Parvathi was also handed over to the MP on the basis of power of attorney sent by Prabhakaran’s sister Vinothini Rajendran, who lives in Canada.<br/><br/>LTTE leader Prabakaran’s father Thiruvengadam Velupillai (86) passed away on Wednesday. The military found the aged parents of Prabhakaran on information provided by the war displaced civilians, in one of the government run camps in Vavuniya district in the last week of May.<br/><br/>The parents of Prabhakaran were thereafter moved into protective custody after their identities were established.
