In a severe reprimand by the General Court Martial, Lieutenant General P.K. Rath has been sentenced with loss of two years of seniority besides 15 years of loss of service for pension purposes. It came after being pronounced guilty in Sukna land scam case. He was court martialled on Friday. Lt. Gen. Rath, the then commander of the army’s 33 Corps, had given a no objection certificate to a Siliguri-based realtor to build an educational institute on a 71 acre army land adjacent to the Corps headquarters in North Bengal. No permission was taken for the transfer of land either from his Northern Command or Army Headquarters. Our correspondent reports, this also violated an army decision not to allow any civilian construction in that region.
