The meeting between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan has been termed as fruitful by the Lt Gen Vinod Bhatia, DGMO who led a high level five-member delegation to Pakistan for talks today.
After crossing over to Attari from Wagah where the meeting was held, Gen. Bhatia told media that the meeting was held in cordial atmosphere and was fruitful.
AIR Jalandhar correspondent reports that Gen. Bhatia said that both the sides discussed the ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) and existing mechanism. He said that it has been decided to ensure ceasefire.
The meeting which lasted for more than two hours was attened by Gen. Bhatia’s Pakistan counterpart Maj Gen Amir Riaz. This is the first face-to-face meeting of two DGMOs in 14 years. Last meeting between the DGMOs of both the countries was held after Kargil in July 1999.
The meeting comes three months after Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif proposed it when they met at the UN session.
