LS takes up Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2016 for discussion

The Lok Sabha today took up the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the Dentists (Amendment) Bill, 2016 for discussion post lunch. The bills seek to amend the Indian Medical Council Act,1956 and the Dentists Act,1948 to replace the ordinances that were promulgated in May to keep state boards out of the ambit of National Eligibility Entrance Examination, NEET for admission in MBBS and BDS courses for this year. <br/><br/>The Bills provide for conduct of uniform entrance examination for admission to all medical educational institutions at the undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The examination will be conducted in Hindi, English and some other languages. Speaking on the bills, NK Premachandran of RSP pitched for putting in place stringent regulations for medical institutions. He said, like the uniform medical examination, the fee structure should also be uniform. <br/><br/>KC Venugopal of Congress complimented the Health Minister JP Nadda for bringing the bills. He said, it will help do away the corrupt practices in the entrance examination. He also said, the uniform examination should also be allowed in regional languages. Supporting the twin bills, Dr Sanjay Jaiswal of BJP demanded opening of more medical colleges.
