The Lok Sabha has taken up the discussion on forcible conversion soon after it reassembled. The house was adjournment on this issue till 3 PM when the opposition trooped in to the well asking for discussion on religious conversions. Initiating the discussion, Jyotiraditya Scindia of the Congress demanded that the Prime Minister should clarify. The discussion is on.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha witnessed unruly scenes during the question hour and it has to be adjourned for ten minutes on the issue of religious conversion, today. As soon the house met for the day, leaders from various political parties including Congress, TMC and SP raised the issue and trooped in the well. They were demanding for the suspension of question-hour to have a discussion on this issue by passing a special motion. However, the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan disallowed it saying that if you all want discussion, give a notice.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister, M. Venkaiah Naidu clarified that government is ready to discuss the issue. However, it does not amount to any law and order situation in the country. He said government is not averse to making a law on the conversion and re-conversion issue but it should precede a thorough discussion among all the political parties. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudi also said, the government is ready to have a full discussion on it. The house made a obituary reference to its former member, Anna Joshi.
