LS Speaker to meet Left leaders to end impasse in Parliament on JPC issue

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has expressed confidence that the government and the Opposition will be able to find a common ground to ensure smooth functioning of Budget Session of Parliament. She said the political parties are keen to ensure that Parliament runs. Mrs Meira Kumar was talking to reporters in New Delhi on Thursday after holding discussions with the leader of the House in Lok Sabha Pranab Mukherjee and senior BJP leaders L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj. The Lok Sabha Speaker started consultations with political parties on Thursday in a bid to break the impasse over the 2G scam in Parliament. Left and some other leaders are expected to exchange the views with her on the issue today. Opposition has so far been adamant on its demand for a JPC probe over the 2G scam issue and the government has rejected it, saying, PAC is the right panel to look into the scam. During the Winter Session of Parliament, the Speaker held two rounds of talks with the political parties to break the logjam. Leader of the Lok Sabha and Finance Minister also held two inconclusive rounds of talks with the Opposition to end the deadlock. He even offered to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the demand of JPC.
