LS Speaker starts consultations with political parties to break impasse over 2G Scam in Parliament

The Lok Sabha Speaker, Mrs. Meira Kumar has started consultations with political parties in a bid to break the impasse over the 2G Scam in Parliament. Leaders from Congress and the BJP have been invited today for discussions and the Left and some other leaders will exchange the views tomorrow. While the Opposition is adamant on its demand of a JPC probe over the issue, the government has rejected it, saying, PAC is the right panel to look into the scam. The Lok Sabha Speaker's efforts are aimed at bringing about a compromise between the Opposition and the Government. During the Winter Session of Parliament, the Speaker held two rounds of talks with the political parties to break the logjam over the issue. Leader of the Lok Sabha and Finance Minister also held two inconclusive rounds of talks with the Opposition to end the deadlock. He even offered to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the demand of JPC. AIR correspondent reports that it is important to work out a formula acceptable to both the sides in the wake of approaching Budget Session of Parliament. The session has heavy financial business including the passage of the budget on agenda.
