Parliament takes lead in using green technologies to address the growing challenge of climate change. For this, solar panels are being installed in the complex for lighting and other usage. Besides a drive to make the complex green is also being launched. The Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs Meira Kumar, in an exclusive interview to our correspondent Vijay Raina, said that two committees have been set up to preserve and protect the Heritage building of Parliament complex.<br/><br/>Referring to the recent meeting of the Commonwealth Speakers and Presiding Officers, Mrs Meira Kumar said many novel suggestions came up and she will try to implement them with support of political parties. This, she said will ensure smooth functioning of the Lok Sabha and also make a case for enhancing the working days of Parliament to 100 in a year. Expressing concern over the low attendance of members and disruptions in the proceedings, the Speaker said that she has been in dialogue with members and leaders of major political parties to ensure attendance and smooth functioning of the House. Citing examples from other Commonwealth countries, Mrs Meira Kumar said efforts are needed to ensure that more questions can be taken up during the time slated for them.<br/><br/>In response to a question about the Ruchika case, Mrs Meira kumar expressed dismay at the growing violence against women. She said media should adopt a balanced approach in presenting such issues. Talking about the women reservation bill, Mrs Kumar said she was keen about the passage of the bill and appealed to all political parties to evolve a consensus on the issue.
