Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday expressed hope that the budget session of Parliament will function smoothly. Briefing reporters after concluding her consultation process with the opposition parties she said the talks were very positive and all political parties have decided to sit down together to end the logjam. Describing the discussions as a major step forward, she said that all the political parties are keen that the budget session must be uninterrupted. This was yet another attempt by the Speaker to break the logjam on the issue of JPC. Though, Left leader Gurudas Dasgupta said after the meeting that they have requested the Speaker to find out a solution to ensure smooth functioning of Budget Session of Parliament but most of the opposition parties including the BJP continue to press for JPC probe into the corruption issues. At a time when the Public Accounts Committee is taking forward the probe, it is for the opposition to take the call and work out a solution that paves way for smooth functioning of the two houses. If Speaker's hope is any indication then it can be said that a solution acceptable to both the sides will be worked out before the session actually begins
