LS Speaker advocates increasing duration of Parliament’s session

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has advocated increasing the duration of session of the house. She says there is need to increase the days of sitting of the session from the current seventy days to at least hundred days in a year for carrying out ever increasing business smoothly in the house. In an exclusive interview to AIR correspondent Manikant Thakur Kumar, she said the increase in working days will sufficient time for debates on various problems facing a vast country like India.Asked whether she would like to shift the Lok Sabha question hour from 11.am to 2.00 pm as done in Rajya Sabha to avoid repeated adjournments, Meira Kumar said that she is thinking in those terms but no consensus has been achieved on the issue so far.Expressing concern over the delay in the passage of women's reservation bill, she expressed hope that unanimity amongst various stake holders will be reached soon.The full interview can be heard tonight at 9:15 pm in our programmes News Analysis on FM gold channel, and in Spotlight on Rajdhani channel .
