Congress Election Committee met today to finalize its 2nd list of candidates for Lok Sabha polls. The list containing about 100 names is likely to be announced by this evening.
The meeting held at the residence of party President Sonia Gandhi, was attended by senior leaders. The party has already released its first list of 194 candidates for the polls.
Our Correspondent reports, former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's name may figure in today's list. Congress spokesperson and General Secretary in charge of Chandigarh, Shakeel Ahmad told reporters that there is no FIR or chargesheet against Bansal in the Railway bribery case. He said, the party will decide Bansal's candidature for the Lok Sabha seat. The spokesperson also said that there is no anti-incumbency wave against Congress leaders
BJP Central Election Committee's meeting is also underway in New Delhi to finalize the third list of candidates for the Lok Sabha seats. The seats of many political heavyweights including LK Advani, Narendra Modi, Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi and Jaswant Singh are likely to be finalised.
The meeting is being attended by party President Rajnath Singh, L K Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi and Narendra Modi. The party has already released two lists in which it has declared 106 candidates in various states.
Prior to the Election Committee's meeting, party's Parliamentary Board held discussions to sort out differences that have cropped up about candidature for some seats and also entry of some leaders and tie-up with some regional parties.
